Karen A Dombrowski-Sobel

Karen Dombrowski-Sobel, award winning photographer, offers stunning photography as the backdrop for a number of Beautiful Calligraphy's quotations and prayers, found in the the Ready Now store.

Born in Buffalo, New York, Karen received a degree in Interior Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology. She has worked in architectural Retail Design firms as a designer and then a project manager, for 14 years. She continued her education in art and photography at the School of Visual Arts and the Fashion Institute of Technology, during which time, she freelanced as a portrait photographer and worked on her fine art photography. Her first show, in 1982 “Superimpositions on Nature” was a series of superimposed images, all done in her darkroom.

In 1990, after leaving the design field, she continued her art work, focusing on nudes, landscapes and hand painted images. Her work was sold at the Chrysalis Gallery in Southampton, the Sag Harbor Picture Gallery, and various small galleries throughout Long Island. In the nineties, she had many One Woman shows on Long Island, and won numerous awards. (see awards).

She then added digital imaging to her tools by studying Photoshop at Hofstra University and at Farmingdale University. In addition she took an advanced class with John Paul Caponigro at the Maine Photo Workshops.

In 2002, Dombrovski-Sobel started “The Photo District Gallery” in Manhattan, where she curated shows with monthly openings. She has helped jumpstart many artist’s careers.
