How to Decide on a Calligraphy Design Concept

There are so many unique ideas for gifts. The thing that we all must remember is that if we are buying a gift for someone else, they may not have the same tastes or needs that we have!

Many people first tell me the colors that they like and they type of designs that they prefer. That’s when I gently remind them: what about the person who is going to receive the gift? What kind of person are they, what style of dress, decoration, colors do THEY like? That’s what will make the best gift!

So many people tell me: I just want black writing on cream color paper. I have to point out that I don't have ANY quotes in the gallery that are dark writing on light paper WITHOUT some kind of decorative element. You could just pick a nice font, and use a nice piece of paper if that's what you want. I try to bring out the sentiment of the quote, either with a decoration, or emphasis on words, titles, etc… That way, you have words "to live by" – and enjoy.

I encourage people to “stretch” and try my creative exercise: close your eyes and take some slow breaths through your nose. Then look behind your eyes and see what images and pictures come to you think about the quote. We all think in pictures; just take your time and think about the quote, and you’ll see the images that come with it!

When you do this, you’ll probably come up with some pictures, and then we can work together to come up with the right design. You see, YOU ARE creative! And believe me, you will love the design and the colors that make the calligraphy sing!

"Lianda Ludwig did the calligraphy for our daughter's formal wedding in 2000. We had about 200 invitations to be individually addressed, and each one was done beautifully and with care. The work as a whole was done on time and at what we considered to be a fair price. We'd have no qualms about using Lianda's calligraphy services again should the need arise."
